The Medical Assistant Program at California Healing Arts College is designed to prepare you for the real world of working in a busy and growing medical office or clinical environment. Certified Medical Assistants are the heart of any good medical practice: you are the person who first greets a new patient, records her blood pressure and other vital signs, and helps her feel as relaxed and reassured as possible.

A medical assistant program at CHAC prepares individuals to be able to:
One major task for a Medical Assistant is to assist in ensuring smooth operations throughout the office. However, this differs significantly from a physician assistant or nursing role. Instead, A Medical Assistant works alongside nurses and others on the health care team, treating all types of patients, from newborns to senior citizens.
Clinical duties performed by medical assistants may vary according to state law. Medical assistants perform any combination of the following duties under the direction of physician, in order to assist in the examination and treatment of patients:
A graduate of a Medical Assistant program may apply for a license, but this is not always required. In order to be approved for certain tasks (e.g., handling x-ray equipment and medical note-taking procedures), some states may require additional tests or courses as well.
(a) Be a high school graduate or equivalent
(b) Be at least 18 years of age
(c) Be physically fit enough to perform the required tasks for your training

Program Length Class Schedule
36 Weeks • 800 Clock Hours (additional hours required for class preparation and homework) • 43 Credits
Monday-Thursday • 8:00 am to 1:00 pm or 5:30 pm to 10:30pm
(20 hours per week with breaks.)
Externships are normally conducted in affiliated clinics generally during daytime working hours
from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and scheduled for 35 hours per week (7 hours per day) for total of six weeks.

Tuition and Financial Aid
The total charges include all books and supplies, STRF fee, as well as administrative fees for registration and graduation. California Healing Arts College participates in several types of funding programs, and we offer several options for tuition payment. A staff of well-qualified financial aid advisors are available to advise and assist you in applying for aid. All prospective students are encouraged to apply for financial assistance if unable to meet educational costs on their own.
Program Description and Vocational Objective
The MA program prepares students for an entry-level position in the medical field as a front and/or back office assistant. Positions are available in clinics, hospitals and doctors’ offices. Upon successful completion of the training, the graduate will be able to perform EKG; prepare strips for evaluation; perform venipuncture; collect specimens; collect patient data; perform vital signs, CPR, and First Aid; perform simple lab tests (e.g., Urinalysis, Hematocrit); prepare patients for physical examinations; and assist physicians in minor surgeries.
CHAC is a member of NATIONAL HEALTHCAREER ASSOCIATION (“NHA”)
