A Day in the Life as a Massage Therapist and Physical Therapy Aide

Massage therapists work in various environments such as spas and resorts, Chiropractic, and Physical Therapy offices or even on cruise ships. Massage Therapists can also choose to work freelance building their own business, how exciting! The healing process through Massage Therapy involves working the body’s tissue from stress or pain and can also benefit the mind and spirit. What’s most appealing is that the primary tool for a massage therapist is their own hands. There are many other tools to aid the Massage Therapist in the healing process such as, hot stones, aromatherapy, cupping, etc and let’s not forget your sheets and massage table for the client. The Massage Therapist & Physical Therapy Aide program at California Healing Arts College, provides a massage table and sheets included with tuition to provide students with all the necessary materials whether they chose to build their own business or work at other establishments.

It’s crucial for Massage Therapists to understand the anatomy and physiology of the human body. There are certain body parts that are more sensitive than others and can cause harm if not handled properly. Similar to other treatments, Massage Therapists must comprehend a patient’s medical history before determining what treatment to perform.

You, The Massage Therapist, will start off your day by looking at your appointment schedule. Most sessions are from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the needs of the client. When your clients arrive, the Massage Therapist must ask the client the location of the tension and/or pain source. Depending on the location and the injury, massage therapists must determine what massage modality and techniques are best and safest to perform. One of the benefits of enrolling at California Healing Arts College Massage Therapist & Physical Aid program is the program covers almost every common modality in the field. This includes acupressure, lymphatic drainage, deep-tissue massage, prenatal massage, myofascial release, sports massage and more! If you are passionate about healing people and providing deep body relaxation, this career path is ideal for you!

Our program also covers the career of a physical therapy aide. Physical Therapy aides work under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Both professions work together to help patients who are recovering from an injury or surgery. As a physical therapy aide you will assist to transport patients to different rooms, reposition patients when needed, teach patients how to use ambulatory devices, clean treatment rooms, organize tools and equipment, prepare

non-medical treatment tools and observe and document patients during the whole treatment

process. Similar to other healthcare professions, you will start your day by looking at your scheduled patients for the day. You will most likely see the same patients on rotation until they are discharged. You will also most likely guide patients in everyday movements such as stretching, massage treatments, heat and ice treatments, etc. At California Healing Arts College, our program covers every major aspect of what physical therapy does. You will get hands-on training, 4 days a week with an experienced instructor and small-classroom setting.

At the end of completing all your appointments, both professions are responsible for cleaning their equipment and organizing all tools ready for the next day. This includes disinfecting, washing sheets, restocking, etc.
